 Internet governance up on the African agenda
01/01/2007 (Pambazuka News) -- The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) have signed an MOU on increasing the awareness of internet governance issues and growing the use of the internet in Africa.  Catalyst: Uganda takes ICT seriously
27/05/2007 (Pambazuka News) -- The Uganda government is taking steps to strategize ICT as a priority sector. The country's ICT minister, Ham Mukasa Mulira, says that an important step was the creation of the country's first ICT ministry.  EASSy breaks fresh ground

 Extent of online threat to children disputed

 Translation: ICT policy beginners' handbook
16/03/2007 -- ICT Policy - A Beginner's Handbook, a flagship publication by the Association for Progressive Communications (APC), has been translated into French. The handbook lays out the issues and dispenses with the jargon to encourage more people to get involved in ICT policy processes. 10/01/2005 -- The current telecommunications policy and regulatory environment in Uganda was established through the telecommunications sector policy framework of 1996, the Uganda Communications Act of 1997 (Laws of Uganda Cap 106), and the licences that were issued to the two national operators.
