Social networks: Activists move in...

Facebook is not just a way to get back in touch with old classmates from school or see what your “friends” are up to. Activists around the world are taking advantage of this new virtual space to expand their reach and establish more immediate and interactive contact with individuals and organisations from an ever wider range of backgrounds. ITeM, an APC member in Uruguay, talked with APCNoticias about how it is using this web-based tool, and shared some practical advice for others who are experimenting with social networks and other Web 2.0 tools.

The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has appealed to stakeholders and the public in general to read, discuss and air their views on the draft of the Electronic and Postal Communications Bill, so that the envisaged Act takes into account the interests of Tanzanians and the existing policies.

The Tanzania Development Vision 2025 envisages a nation imbued with five main attributes: high quality livelihood; peace, stability and unity; good governance; a well educated and learning society; and a strong and competitive economy capable of producing sustainable growth and shared benefits. On the other hand, this Policy has articulated ten main focus areas in harnessing ICT in Tanzania which include strategic ICT leadership; ICT infrastructure; ICT Industry; Human Capital; Legal and Regulatory Framework; Productive Sectors; Service Sectors; Public Service; Local Content; and Universal Access.

Tanzania National Telecommunication Policy

This document underlines the objectives and strategies of the National Telecommunications Policy (NTP), for the period 1997 through 2020. The NTP aims at ensuring the accelerated development of an efficient telecommunications netowrk that can provide an info-communication infrastructure and undersal access to telecommunications services by all sectors of the national economy and segments of the population. The NTP underscores the development of the telecommunications sector as a guideline to all stakeholders in line with the national macroeconomic, legal and regulatory regimes.
