(East African Standard) --
Telkom Kenya has drastically reduced Internet tariffs by up to 69 percent after the government licensed two operators to compete with the main internet gateway provider - JamboNet.
A report by the East African Standard has said that the new tariffs would be effective from February 01 next year. The announcement made by the manager Internet Protocol (IP) Services Julius Rukaria, also said that a dedicated Internet connectivity would also be available as a premium service.
Telkom’s reduction in tariffs comes only a few days after the sector regulator, Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK) opened up the segment licensing two operators and approving seven other applicants after the expiry of the 60 days gazettement period.
CCK has licensed Kenya Data Network (KDN) and Jamii Telecoms as Internet backbone.
